“Deep Star Six” is a 1989 sci-fi horror film that takes viewers on an unforgettable journey to a deep-sea military facility. The story revolves around a group of scientists and military personnel who stumble upon unknown creatures while installing a missile base underwater.
Directed by Sean S. Cunningham, best known for Friday the 13th, the film promises to keep audiences on the edge of their seats. However, the first hour of the film may seem tedious as there isn’t much action or suspense.
The underwater scenes are particularly dark and make it challenging to discern what’s going on. Other than that, the film is comparable to James Cameron’s The Abyss in terms of the underwater setting, but doesn’t quite deliver the same level of tension and engagement.
Nevertheless, the film picks up pace towards the end, especially when the creatures reveal their true nature, and a thrilling chase ensues. The final 20 minutes of the film are both intense and exciting, cementing it as a must-see movie of its time.
Though not on par with The Land That Time Forgot, a vintage dinosaur film from the 70s, “Deep Star Six” still offers some entertainment. The underwater scenes may be a bit of a letdown, but the suspense and payoff are undeniably compelling.
If you’re a fan of sci-fi horror or enjoy a good undersea adventure, “Deep Star Six” is definitely worth your time. You can watch it for free online, or via streaming services like IOS, SmartTV, and mobile phones. So, grab your popcorn, settle in, and prepare for a wild ride 24/7.
